At the Rink: Wild at Jets

WINNIPEG -- The Minnesota Wild attempt to extend their winning streak to three games when they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday (6 p.m. ET; TSN3; FS-N, FS-WI).

It's the first of five games between the Central Division rivals. An 8-1 Minnesota preseason win against Winnipeg at Xcel Energy Center on Sept. 25 produced friction between the teams, but Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice said he does not expect that to carry over to Sunday. Ten of the past 12 games between Minnesota and Winnipeg have been one-goal games.

"I don't think either team really likes each other," Maurice said Saturday, according to the Jets website. "It's a function of us being neck-and-neck with them in the standings, scratching and clawing and playing them five times. So that will be the story [Sunday]."

Minnesota (5-1-1) will play its third game in four nights after shutting out the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 at home on Saturday. After playing three games in 11 days, Minnesota is in the middle of a stretch of six games in 10 days.

"To be successful in the [NHL], you have to build an identity with your team," Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said. "You come into this building and you know what to expect. It's going to be a hard-hitting game. They play a physical game. They check hard. You have to fight for your ice out there, and with us playing [Saturday], it will be a good challenge."

The Wild recalled forward Kurtis Gabriel from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Saturday. Gabriel, 22, has not played an NHL game and did not have a point in three AHL games this season. Yeo said that Gabriel will be a scratch.

Yeo also said that defenseman Christian Folin will play Sunday after being a healthy scratch against Anaheim. He will replace Nate Prosser.

Winnipeg (4-2-1) continues a six-game homestand that has begun 1-1-1 after a 4-3 overtime loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.

Jets forward Drew Stafford missed practice Saturday but will be in the lineup Sunday, Maurice said.

Darcy Kuemper will start in goal for Minnesota. Winnipeg is expected to start goaltender Michael Hutchinson for the first time since Oct. 13.
