At the Rink: Flames at Islanders

NEW YORK -- New York Islanders forward Ryan Strome will return to the lineup Monday against the Calgary Flames (7 p.m. ET; SNW, MSG+) after being a healthy scratch Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.

It's the second time in three NHL seasons he's been a healthy scratch.

"It [ticks] me off," Strome said Monday. "There's no other way to put it. You never want to be in that situation. You want to be out there helping your team and you think that you can help your team.

"Yeah, I'm upset. I'm [ticked] off. But I think I'm a good teammate and I'm happy for the guys last game. Now my job is to come back and help try and get a win. I think it's an opportunity and another chance to prove yourself and play with a little more fire."

Islanders (5-2-1) coach Jack Capuano said Saturday was more about wanting to get right wing Steve Bernier into the lineup than it was a reflection on Strome's play. Strome, the Islanders' first-round pick (No. 5) at the 2011 NHL Draft, has one goal and four assists in seven games this season.

"He's been on track," Capuano said. "Obviously he's produced points for us, but going into St. Louis we wanted to change the lines up a little bit and in back-to-back games we wanted to get [Steve] Bernier in there as well.

"I had a good talk with Ryan. He's still a young player so he'll be fine."

The Flames (2-6-0) didn't skate Monday. Joni Ortio is expected to start in goal.

Here are the projected lineups:

FLAMES

Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Jiri Hudler

Joe Colborne - Mikael Backlund - Michael Frolik

Derek Grant - Sam Bennett - Josh Jooris

Brandon Bollig - Matt Stajan - David Jones

Mark Giordano - Dennis Wideman

Kris Russell - Deryk Engelland

Ladislav Smid - Dougie Hamilton

Joni Ortio

Jonas Hiller

Injured: TJ Brodie (hand), Lance Bouma (leg), Michael Ferland (sprained knee)

Scratched: Mason Raymond, Jakub Nakladal

ISLANDERS

Nikolay Kulemin - John Tavares - Ryan Strome

Anders Lee - Frans Nielsen - Kyle Okposo

Josh Bailey - Mikhail Grabovski - Brock Nelson

Matt Martin - Casey Cizikas - Cal Clutterbuck

Nick Leddy - Johnny Boychuk

Calvin de Haan - Travis Hamonic

Brian Strait - Marek Zidlicky

Jaroslav Halak

Thomas Greiss

Injured: Eric Boulton (lower body), Thomas Hickey (lower body)

Scratched: Steve Bernier, Jean-Francois Berube

Status report: Ortio played his first game Sunday against the New York Rangers, stopping all five shots he saw in 7:59 of ice time. … Hickey was placed on injured reserve Monday because of a lower-body injury sustained Saturday and will be out "for a little while," according to Capuano. Newsday reported Hickey could be out for a month. He had returned Oct. 17 from a lower-body injury sustained during the preseason. He has two goals in four games. Zidlicky, a healthy scratch at St. Louis, will replace Hickey in the lineup. … Capuano said he's not sure if Lee will play on the top line with Tavares and Strome.

Who's hot: Gaudreau had an assist Sunday, extending his point streak to three games; he has five assists during that span. … Hudler has one goal and two assists in the past two games. … Tavares has four goals and six assists during a six-game point streak, and leads the Islanders with 11 points. … Bailey has points in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
