NEW YORK -- New York Islanders forward Ryan Strome will return to the lineup Monday against the Calgary Flames (7 p.m. ET; SNW, MSG+) after being a healthy scratch Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.
It's the second time in three NHL seasons he's been a healthy scratch.
"It [ticks] me off," Strome said Monday. "There's no other way to put it. You never want to be in that situation. You want to be out there helping your team and you think that you can help your team.
"Yeah, I'm upset. I'm [ticked] off. But I think I'm a good teammate and I'm happy for the guys last game. Now my job is to come back and help try and get a win. I think it's an opportunity and another chance to prove yourself and play with a little more fire."
Islanders (5-2-1) coach Jack Capuano said Saturday was more about wanting to get right wing Steve Bernier into the lineup than it was a reflection on Strome's play. Strome, the Islanders' first-round pick (No. 5) at the 2011 NHL Draft, has one goal and four assists in seven games this season.
"He's been on track," Capuano said. "Obviously he's produced points for us, but going into St. Louis we wanted to change the lines up a little bit and in back-to-back games we wanted to get [Steve] Bernier in there as well.
"I had a good talk with Ryan. He's still a young player so he'll be fine."
The Flames (2-6-0) didn't skate Monday. Joni Ortio is expected to start in goal.
