DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 22

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Mikko Koivu, C, Minnesota Wild

DraftKings price: $4,300

This may not seem like an attractive pick, but Koivu has averaged 3.8 DraftKings points per contest and faces a Columbus Blue Jackets team which has allowed the most goals this season (34), almost five per game. Even after the coaching change from Todd Richards to John Tortorella, it likely will take some time for the Blue Jackets to adjust, meaning the Wild should be able to score. Koivu has one point in four of five games and has 10 shots in his past two games.

Mike Hoffman W, Ottawa Senators

DraftKings price: $5,100

Hoffman is picking up where he left off last season. The Calder Trophy finalist had 27 goals and 48 points in 79 games and has three goals and seven points in six games, including points in four of six games. Hoffman has two multipoint games and averages three shots per game. Hoffman and his linemates (Mark Stone, $5,600; Kyle Turris, $5,900) can all be had for under $6,000 each, making this linestacking an affordable one. If you only want one of them, I'd suggest Hoffman against the New Jersey Devils.

Brent Seabrook, D, Chicago Blackhawks

DraftKings price: $4,000

With his defense partner Duncan Keith out 4-6 weeks because of a knee injury, Seabrook likely will take on more defensive and offensive responsibility. Seabrook has one goal this season (his only point) but that total should pick up. He also has 11 shots and eight blocks in six games, so he can contribute there as well. His $4,000 price makes him a bargain compared to top-tier defenseman like Erik Karlsson ($6,700), Roman Josi ($6,000) and Kris Letang ($5,500). And Seabrook has a favorable matchup against the Florida Panthers at home.

Cory Schneider, G, New Jersey Devils

DraftKings price: $6,800

Schneider is $1,200 less than the most expensive goalie in the contest (Braden Holtby, $8,000) and has averaged 5.0 points per DraftKings contest. In his past three starts, he has two wins, a shootout loss and has allowed a total of four goals while making 77 saves. This is an against-the-grain pick as Schneider isn't viewed as a top-tier goalie as seen by his price and the team he plays for, but don't be surprised if he steals the Devils another two points against the Ottawa Senators.
