At the Rink: Predators at Senators

OTTAWA -- Goaltender Carter Hutton will get his first start of the season for the Nashville Predators against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; SN1, FS-TN).

Pekka Rinne (3-1-0, 1.51 goals against average, .944 save percentage) started the Predators first four games.

"This one is probably a little bit planned. Carter had an excellent training camp," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. "He played really good in some of the games. He looked sharp. This is an opportunity to get him in on the road trip. I think the guys are excited to have him in there and have a lot of faith in Carter to get the job done. You've to find the right spots and this seems like the right spot to do it."

Hutton, 29, had a 6-7-4 record last season with a 2.61 goals against average and .902 save percentage and lost his last three decisions.

The Predators (3-1-0) are coming off their first loss, 4-3 to the New York Islanders on Thursday, although they said that was their best game.

"The first three games we were average and our goaltender played really, really well," Predators center Mike Fisher said. "Last game was our best game and we lost, but that was more like the way we need to be playing."

The Senators (3-2-0) are coming off a 2-0 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. It was the first time they were shut out in 128 games. Ottawa has been outshot in every game this season.

"That's what cost us against Montreal (a 3-1 loss in their home opener) and Pittsburgh. We played a lot of time in our end and we weren't able to get any zone time in their end," Senators forward Mark Stone said.

"Teams are taking shots from everywhere on us and they're able to get the second pucks back where I think for us, we're trying to make too many cute plays and we're one and done. I think we're getting some quality chances, we're just not building off of those chances. … We haven't really had a lot of zone time in their end. We've been chasing the puck quite a bit."

The Senators have been outshot 179-125 in four games.

"I think shots can be deceiving," goalie Craig Anderson said. "You have to look at the quality of the chances. How much time is spent in your zone and the plays coming forth from it? There's times when you're up by two or three goals in a game and teams just come over the red line and throw it on and you get a free shot. It's not really a scoring chance, but it helps the shot clock. It tells a bit of the story, but you really have to pay attention to the game and really understand what's going on to look in to the detail of what the shot clock really means."

Status report: MacArthur will miss his second game after sustaining an upper-body injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. "I'm not putting any time line on it because I don't know," Senators coach Dave Cameron said. "He's not playing [Saturday]."
