DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 13

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Oscar Lindberg, C, New York Rangers

DraftKings price: $3,000

It's tough to guess when a rookie will cool off since it's so early in the season, but DraftKings players should take a chance on Lindberg at home against the Winnipeg Jets. Though the Jets have a 2.33 goals-against average in three games this season, Lindberg leads all rookies with four goals in three games with at least one in each of those games. By spending so little on Lindberg, players can have one of the hottest forwards in the NHL and still have enough money in their budgets to take the Tampa Bay Lightning's Steven Stamkos ($7,400) as a No. 1 center Tuesday.

Ales Hemsky, W, Dallas Stars

DraftKings price: $3,800

Choosing an inexpensive player while he is on the verge of a point streak is key and that is especially the case with veterans like Hemsky. It is likely that Hemsky will soon slow down, but DraftKings players might as well grab him when he faces the Edmonton Oilers, his former team, at home Tuesday. Hemsky has one goal, three assists and six shots on goal in two games this season, and has two assists, two blocked shots and three SOG in three games against Edmonton.

Seth Jones, D, Nashville Predators

DraftKings price: $3,700

This could be the season that Jones, the fourth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, finally breaks out as an offensive threat from the blue line. Although Jones is still on the Predators' second defensive pairing at regular strength and on the power play, he has been solid through two games with two assists, two blocked shots and four SOG. Facing the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday gives all Predators players the opportunity to produce substantial fantasy points with the Devils scoring four goals against in two games.

Al Montoya or Roberto Luongo , G, Florida Panthers

DraftKings price: $6,600 (Montoya) or $7,000 (Luongo)

Panthers coach Gerard Gallant has yet to name his starting goaltender for the game Tuesday at the Carolina Hurricanes, but it is possible that Montoya gets the spot start with starter Luongo playing Monday in a 1-0 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers. DraftKings players need to research who Gallant goes with prior to puck drop at 7 p.m. ET, but either goalie is a great choice considering the Panthers' 1.00 GAA in two games this season. Additionally, the Hurricanes are one of the weaker offensive teams this season, which makes Montoya or Luongo an even stronger play at such an affordable price.
