DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 12

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Vincent Trocheck, C, Florida Panthers

DraftKings price: $3,700

A career-high for points in a single game (goal, three assists) in the Panthers' 7-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday is a good enough reason to take a chance on Trocheck at such a low price. The Panthers visit the Flyers on Monday to wrap up their home-and-home series and Trocheck will try to improve upon his solid numbers against the Flyers with one goal, four assists, two blocked shots and 11 shots on goal in four games.

Ondrej Palat, W, Tampa Bay Lightning

DraftKings price: $4,900

The "Triplets Line" of Palat, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov has one goal in the Lightning's first two games but visiting the Boston Bruins on Monday should provide a spark. The Bruins defense has struggled with 10 goals against in their first two games. Palat has not scored a goal or assist this season, but has been great against Boston in his career with six points (two goals, four assists), two blocked shots and eight SOG in seven games.

Dan Hamhuis, D, Vancouver Canucks

DraftKings price: $2,800

Priced slightly above the bare minimum for DraftKings salaries; Hamhuis is a serviceable option as the second defenseman in lineups Monday. The possibility for an assist and a couple of blocked shots and SOG against the Anaheim Ducks gives owners the chance at gaining some bonus points with hardly any hit to their respective budgets. Hamhuis has fared well against Anaheim in his career with 19 points (three goals, 16 assists), 27 blocked shots and 64 SOG in 44 games.

Sergei Bobrovsky, G, Columbus Blue Jackets

DraftKings price: $7,300

Ranked as the fourth-most expensive goaltender for games Monday means that Bobrovsky is not necessarily a true bargain price wise, but consider his great value when compared to injured New York Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak ($7,200), Blue Jackets backup Curtis McElhinney ($7,100) and winless Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask ($7,500) who has a 4.03 goals-against average. The Buffalo Sabres, the Blue Jackets' opponent Monday, is averaging a goal a game over their first two games, so Bobrovsky should give DraftKings players a great return on investment if he gets the start.
