Maple Leafs name Bernier starter for first two games

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday named Jonathan Bernier their starting goaltender for the first two games of the season.

The Maple Leafs open the season Wednesday at home against the Montreal Canadiens, before traveling to play the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

James Reimer, who competed with Bernier for the No. 1 job in training camp, will start Saturday at home against the Ottawa Senators.

Maple Leafs defenseman Stephane Robidas missed practice Monday because of a groin injury. There was no immediate word on his status for opening night.
