Youngstown defenseman McInnis honored by USHL

Youngstown Phantoms defenseman Luke McInnis, a C-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's September players to watch list, was named the United States Hockey League defenseman of the week Monday.

McInnis had one goal, two points and a plus-7 rating in back-to-back victories against the Bloomington Thunder on Friday and Saturday.

The 5-foot-10, 167-pound left-shot defender is in his first season in the USHL.

As a C-rated skater, he's projected to be a fourth-, fifth-, or sixth-round selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, which will be held June 24-25 at First Niagara Center in Buffalo.

McInnis was named most valuable player after scoring the game-winning goal for Team Plante in a 6-4 victory against Team Roenick in the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game on Sept. 24.

He is the son of former NHL player Marty McInnis and will play for Boston College in Hockey East in 2016-17.
