Wirtz and Gov. Bruce Rauner took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially began the fair, which runs through Aug. 23.
Wirtz was named chairman of the Blackhawks in October 2007, after his father, William Wirtz, died. Since then, the Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup three times, 2010, 2013 and this year.
On Sunday, Wirtz took the Cup to Winnetka, Ill., where fireman and police posed for pictures.
