Blackhawks asst. GM brings Cup to Minnesota college

Chicago Blackhawks assistant general manager Norm Maciver spent the first part of his Stanley Cup day with family before taking it to his alma mater, the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

"This is almost better than winning it, sharing it with family and friends," Maciver told NNCNNOW.com. "When they see it for the first time, it's magic."

The Cup was on display at Amisol Arena at the university, where he played from 1982-86. He was a Hobey Baker finalist and two-time All-American.

"Duluth has been my home since the 1980s, so it's special to be able to bring this back here and share with the community," Maciver said.

Maciver, 50, played 500 NHL games with seven teams. He joined the Blackhawks front office in 2006.

Donations for photographs taken with the Cup go to the Be the Match Bone Marrow Donor Program, Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, and UMD hockey scholarships, the Duluth News Tribune reported.
