Lightning's Carle questionable for Game 4

The status of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matthew Carle is unknown heading into Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers at Amalie Arena on Friday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

"No update," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Thursday. "What's the line? Day-to-day, but then again, aren't we all?"

Carle left Game 3 at 9:55 of the first period following a collision in the neutral zone with New York Rangers center Derek Stepan. It appeared Carle was trying to go to the bench for a line change as Stepan was curling back to go into the New York zone.

Carle played three shifts totaling 1:36 in the first period. He entered the game averaging 17:34 of ice time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and has played in each of Tampa Bay's 16 games. He has two assists and is minus-6.

The Lightning dressed seven defensemen and 11 forwards in Games 2 and 3 of the series. It is unknown if they will continue to do so or will add a forward to replace Carle if he can't play.

The Lightning won 6-5 in overtime in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Carle missed two months of the regular season, returning March 14 after having abdominal surgery.
