ANAHEIM -- The number was so unusual that Anaheim Ducks right wing Kyle Palmieri almost shook his head and laughed when asked about it.
Palmieri directed 17 shots on net in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final on Tuesday. Eight were on net and nine missed. It came in a 3-2 triple-overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the longest game at Honda Center and the second-longest in Ducks history.
The next closest player on either team in combined shots/missed shots was Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf's 12.
"I guess if you look at it, [I] almost played two full games," Palmieri said. "Our line was generating a lot. I thought both goalies played an incredible game."
Palmieri's eight shots were a game high, and more impressive considering six of those came in the overtime periods and he played 24:36 minutes, fourth-fewest among Anaheim forwards. His best chance came when he one-timed a shot from the slot that sailed wide.
It was one of numerous missed opportunities the Ducks have to put behind them with the best-of-7 series tied 1-1 going into Game 3 on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
"Any loss in the playoffs is tough, but any team has to overcome them," Palmieri said. "We knew there was going to be ups and downs. [Tuesday] night was as emotional and draining as the game gets, but that's what playoff hockey is all about, so we're excited to go on the road and get ready for Game 3."
