NEW YORK -- Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brian Boyle practiced Monday, but his status for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports) is unknown.
The Rangers lead the best-of-7 series 1-0.
"The update is that there is no update," coach Jon Cooper said when asked if Boyle, who missed a 2-1 loss in Game 1 on Saturday with an undisclosed injury, would play.
Captain Steven Stamkos discussed Boyle's importance to the Lightning.
"He's a great leader in this room," Stamkos said. "He's played a lot of hockey at this time of the year. It was tough for him to not be in the lineup for us. Great on the penalty kill, great on faceoffs, so hopefully he can get a chance to come back tonight.
"I'm not sure yet. He's a big part, but we've had guys step in and the depth of this team has been a strength of ours all year. I think we showed that without [Ryan Callahan] in Game 6 and we'll have to find a way whether he's in or out. We're definitely a better team when he's in our lineup."
No matter who is in the lineup, Cooper is hoping for a better effort Monday than in Game 1.
"Instead of the first game of the conference finals, it was like Game 53 [of the regular season], and we can't play it like that," Cooper said. "So our will has to be stronger. Our determination has to be stronger. And the group, every time they've been challenged, has found a way to elevate themselves. It's unfortunate that we're down 0-1. It was probably a little bit of an eye-opening experience for us, but our will has got to be stronger."
Stamkos agreed with his coach.
"We have a lot better in this room, I think we realize that," Stamkos said. "We learned our lesson pretty quick and I expect a much better effort from our team tonight."
