Erie Otters captain Connor McDavid has been named the Pioneer Energy Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week after leading the league with 10 points in three games. It's the second straight week and third time in four weeks that he's won the award

McDavid leads all playoff performers in the Canadian Hockey League with 19 goals and 42 points, and has a point in all 15 playoff games. He had eight goals and 11 assists in a six-game victory against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the OHL Western Conference Final. It marked the second time in the Otters' 19-year history that they won the Wayne Gretzky Trophy to advance to the league finals and first time since 2002.

McDavid has tied the franchise record set in 2002 by Cory Pecker for points in a postseason and is nine shy of the OHL record of 51 points set by Justin Papineau in 1999 with the Belleville Bulls and Jason Dawe in 1993 with the Peterborough Petes.

The next task for McDavid and the Otters is 2015 Rogers OHL Championship Series against the Oshawa Generals, beginning Friday in Oshawa. The Generals won their first Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference champions Sunday after a six-game series win against the North Bay Battalion.

McDavid, the OHL Scholastic Player of the Year, finished third in league scoring during the regular season with 120 points in 47 games. He is No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of the top North American skaters eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft, which will be held June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.

The Generals finished the regular season 51-11-6 (108 points) while the Otters were 50-14-4 (104 points). The Generals won the head-to-head regular-season series 2-0.

The top projected 2015 draft prospect for the Generals is defenseman Mitchell Vande Sompel, No. 34 on Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters. Vande Sompel has three goals and 12 points in 16 playoff games. He had 12 goals and 63 points in 58 regular-season games.

The Robertson Cup, awarded to the OHL champion, has been won by 23 different teams; the Generals lead the way with 12 championships, including a record seven straight from 1938-44. The Otters won the Robertson Cup in 2002 in their only other appearance in the championship round, defeating the Barrie Colts in five games.

The MasterCard Memorial Cup, which is the CHL's four-team, 10-day tournament featuring the host city and the champions of the OHL, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League, begins May 21 in Quebec City, Quebec.
