Lightning won't make 'it easy on' Red Wings in Game 4

DETROIT -- The Tampa Bay Lightning want to get back to what they were doing in the first two games of their Eastern Conference First Round series against the Detroit Red Wings.

Tampa Bay trails the best-of-7 series 2-1 after losing Game 3, 3-0 on Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena.

Game 4 is Thursday in Detroit (7 p.m. ET; CBC, NBCSN, TVA, FS-D, FS-F).

"What we did was turn the puck over on numerous occasions," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Wednesday after practice at Joe Louis Arena. "What we didn't do was make them play a 200-foot game. We made it easy on them."

Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop said, "Last night we had so many turnovers in the neutral zone. We're not getting the puck deep."

Forward Steven Stamkos said the errors are correctable.

"We know what we were doing wrong, it's an easy fix," Stamkos said. " … I think it was just us. We didn't give up that much, we haven't given up many chances in the first three games. We have to find a way to duplicate that, the quality chances we got in the first two games."

Tampa Bay and Detroit split the first two games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at Amalie Arena, where the Lightning outshot the Red Wings 76-38.

Center Tyler Johnson doesn't want to take anything from the Red Wings' Game 3 win, but …

"Give Detroit credit for playing well," Johnson said. "But at the same time, we didn't play our game at all."

Cooper said defenseman Jason Garrison, who missed the first three games with an upper-body injury, won't return for Game 4.
