DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings are hoping to get a boost from their home crowd in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference First Round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVA Sports, SN, FS-F, FS-D).
AT THE RINK: LIGHTNING
The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1 but Detroit has been outplayed in both games and outshot 76-38.
"The fans will push us forward for sure," Red Wings left wing Tomas Tatar said. "We have to … try to finish the checks and make it as tight as we can and over-shoot the puck."
Detroit coach Mike Babcock will be able to dictate matchups with the last change.
"You're allowed matchups and you're allowed last change, which helps you a little bit," Babcock said. "Face-off circle you get to go down second (put stick down last), which I think gives you a three- or four-percent advantage if you look at the whole year.
"But the bottom line is you have to have your crowd help you. If you don't do anything, your crowd's not going to help you, so you have to play well. Tonight we've got to start on time, we have to have good emotion and energy but that emotion's got to be controlled and let's play well."
The Red Wings will get left wing Justin Abdelkader back. He missed the first two games as well as the last four regular-season games with an injured hand.
"Anytime you start a series on the road, you're goal is to try to get one," Abdelkader said. "We did a good job of that. We didn't play the way we wanted to play. At the same time, coming back home we can come out and get that first 10 minutes and start like they had in their building and get our crowd going and into it."
Defenseman Brendan Smith also returns after being a healthy scratch for three games.
