BRANDON, Fla. -- Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said he is happy to have a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference First Round best-of-7 series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, he said he wouldn't mind if his team spent more time outside the penalty box in Game 2 at Amalie Arena on Saturday (3p.m. ET; NBC, NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
The Red Wings were shorthanded seven times in Game 1, but their penalty kill kept the Lightning's power play off the scoreboard in the 3-2 win Thursday.
"We had to use our [penalty kill] for 14 minutes and that doesn't leave a lot of ice time for your fourth line to get out there," Babcock said Friday. "That was among the several things we have to clean up [Saturday]."
The Lightning dominated play at times and outshot Detroit 46-14.
"We have to move quicker to the puck and challenge their possession more," Babcock said. "We need to spend more time in the zone and moving the puck around. I'd much rather see our guys with the puck trying to make plays than chasing them down on the boards."
Babcock said he doesn't expect any lineup changes Saturday, which means forward Justin Abdelkader (hand) is not ready to return after missing Game 1. Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson did not skate in practice but is expected to play Saturday.
