Penguins' Malkin out with undisclosed injury

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will not play against the Philadelphia Flyers at Consol Energy Center on Wednesday.

Malkin did not participate in warm-ups because of an unspecified injury, the Penguins announced. He missed practice Tuesday for what assistant coach Gary Agnew called a maintenance day.

After missing six games with a lower-body injury sustained against the Boston Bruins on March 14, Malkin returned against the Arizona Coyotes on March 28 and had two assists in a 3-2 win.

Malkin did not take part in Pittsburgh’s optional Wednesday morning skate and will be replaced by center Brandon Sutter on the second line, between left wing Chris Kunitz and right wing Steve Downie.

In 65 games, Malkin leads the Penguins with 28 goals, three more than forward Sidney Crosby. Malkin is second on the Penguins with 70 points, nine behind Crosby.
