Erie's Strome wins OHL scoring title with career day

Erie Otters center Dylan Strome, who is considered a top-10 prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft, established two Erie records and won the Ontario Hockey League scoring title on the final day of the regular season when he had career-highs of four goals and six points in an 8-7 victory against the Niagara IceDogs at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario on Sunday.

Strome, No. 5 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm ranking of the top North American skaters eligible for the 2015 draft, finished with a league-best and Otters record 84 assists and 129 points in 68 games. He has been Erie's second-line center, slotted behind captain Connor McDavid, the projected No. 1 pick in this year's draft.

McDavid, a healthy scratch against the IceDogs on Sunday, finished third in the league with 120 points in 47 games.

Strome passed London Knights forward Mitchell Marner for the OHL scoring crown while helping Erie (50-14-4) to its 10th straight victory to end the regular season. Marner, who finished second in the OHL with 126 points in 63 games , is No. 7 on Central Scouting's midterm ranking.

The former Erie records of 83 assists and 128 points in a season were set by Connor Brown in 2013-14.

The Otters open the OHL playoffs against the Sarnia Sting on Thursday in a best-of-7 quarterfinal-round series.
