Freshman center Jack Eichel, a projected top-two pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, became the first player in 18 seasons at Boston University to score 60 points while helping the Terriers advance to the semifinal round of the Hockey East tournament with two victories this past weekend.

Eichel, No. 2 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm ranking of the top North American skaters eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft, totaled two goals and finished with six points in back-to-back wins against Merrimack in a best-of-3 quarterfinal series. Boston University (23-7-5) will next play New Hampshire in the semifinal round at TD Garden on March 20.

In the series clincher on Saturday, Eichel assisted on three goals in a 5-0 victory to become the first BU player since Chris Drury in 1996-97 to score 60 points in a season. Drury had 38 goals and 62 points in 41 games that season; Eichel has 20 goals and leads the nation with 61 points in 34 games in 2014-15.

Eichel also equaled a season high 10-game point streak, during which he has five goals and 21 points. He leads the nation in assists per game (1.21), points per game (1.79) and plus-minus rating (plus-42). The Terriers are 15-0-0 when Eichel scores a goal and 22-5-2 when he at least has one point. BU is 8-7-5 when he does not score a goal and 1-2-3 when he's held without a point.

The line of Eichel between Evan Rodrigues and Danny O'Regan combined for five goals and nine assists in the two victories against Merrimack.

Erie Otters captain Connor McDavid, No. 1 on Central Scouting's ranking of the top North American skaters, had his 27-game point streak end in a 3-0 victory against the Niagara IceDogs on Wednesday.

It didn't take long for him to begin a new streak. McDavid scored two goals and three points in a 4-1 victory against the Windsor Spitfires and Saturday and had a goal and three points, in a 5-1 victory against the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday.

McDavid had 26 goals and 67 points during his streak, the longest in the Ontario Hockey League this season. It began Nov. 7 but was paused for almost two months while he recovered from a broken hand sustained in a fight Nov. 11 and was away playing for Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. The streak is the longest in the OHL since New York Islanders captain John Tavares had points in 27 straight games during the 2007-08 season as a member of the Oshawa Generals.

McDavid ranks third in the OHL with 115 points in 45 games for Erie (47-14-4).

London Knights center Mitchell Marner, No. 7 on Central Scouting's midterm list, ranks first in the OHL with 124 points in 62 games. Erie second-line center Dylan Strome, No. 5 on Central Scouting's midterm list, is second in the OHL with 117 points in 65 matches.
