RALEIGH, N.C. -- Goaltender Richard Bachman will make a rare start in goal for the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Bachman's most recent start was Nov. 3, 2013, but he also made a relief appearance in a 7-2 loss at the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 14, and he faced two shootout attempts two nights later in relief of injured goaltender Victor Fasth.
The Oilers are coming off a 2-1 shootout loss at the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday in a game in which Ben Scrivens was the gioalie. Edmonton outshot Chicago, 47-39.
"I like the way we played," said Oilers coach Todd Nelson after a Saturday practice in Raleigh. "We want to be proud of our effort, but we can't be content or satisfied."
The Hurricanes lost 3-1 to the Minnesota Wild on Friday, drawing sharp criticism from coach Bill Peters.
"We used to be a hard-working, honest group," he said. "We haven't been the last two times out."
As a result, Peters juggled his forward lines for Sunday. He separated Eric and Jordan Staal, who have skated on the same line since early January. Eric, who played center for his entire career until playing with Jordan, will remain on the left wing, playing with Victor Rask and Elias Lindholm.
