At the Rink: Sabres at Lightning

TAMPA -- When the NHL Trade Deadline passed on Monday, the Tampa Bay Lightning were a little deeper and stronger on defense and the Buffalo Sabres had continued their youth movement.

Each team will look a little different when they play at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.

The Lightning (38-20-6) welcome defenseman Braydon Coburn to the lineup after acquiring him in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. Coburn, 30, will bring additional size and playoff experience to Tampa Bay.

"It's a different feeling with a new group and new coaches," Coburn said. "I think as hockey players we get into a bit of a routine, but I'll adjust to a quickly. This is a fast group with a lot of skill and I'm eager to see how I fit in."

Lightning captain Steven Stamkos said the team is excited to add Coburn to the roster.

"We want to win and he's a tough, veteran guy that knows how to play in all situations," Stamkos said. "Obviously it's tough to see a teammate like [Radko] Gudas go, but we want to win and [Coburn's] a solid defender and a physical guy. He's someone that's going to help us now and in the playoffs."

Buffalo (19-39-5) was busy Monday, trading veteran forwards Matt Flynn, Chris Stewart and Torrey Mitchell and goaltender Michal Neuvirth. The Sabres will fill the roster gaps with call-ups from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League and former Lightning goalie Anders Lindback, who was acquired in a trade with Dallas last month.

"A lot of young guys are going to get the opportunities they've wanted for a long time," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said. "Guys that have always wanted to play in the NHL, here's your chance."

Lindback is 2-8-0 in his 10 appearances this season with a 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage.

He appeared in all four games for the Lightning in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs after an injury sidelined starting goaltender Ben Bishop. He gave up 14 goals against the Montreal Canadiens as the Lightning were eliminated in a sweep.

"He's going to get a shot to play," Nolan said. "And he can make somebody eat crowd for thinking he can't play."

Bishop was hit in the midsection with a puck during the Lightning's morning skate and spent time with a trainer. Andrei Vasilevskiy will get the start.

The Lightning are 3-0-1 against the Sabres this season.
