Defenseman Jack Hillen, acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes earlier Saturday, will be in the lineup Saturday when they face the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
The Hurricanes traded defenseman Tim Gleason to the Washington Capitals for Hillen and a fourth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
The trade was announced around noon ET, and shortly after Hillen was seen in his suit with a bag packed, leaving the Capitals practice facility in Arlington, Va., for Long Island, according to the Washington Post.
Neither team held a morning skate Saturday after playing the night before.
Goaltender Cam Ward will start for the Hurricanes after Anton Khudobin made 28 saves for his fourth career shutout in a 3-0 win against the Capitals. Ward was honored in a pre-game ceremony for having played in his 500th NHL game Tuesday, a 4-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Goaltender Chad Johnson will get his fourth start in the past 12 days for the Islanders after Jaroslav Halak set the single-season franchise record with his 33rd win in a 2-1 victory against the Calgary Flames. Johnson has made 89 saves on 93 shots (.957 save percentage) and is 2-0-1 over his past three starts.
