Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry expects to be traded by the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline on March 2 at 3 p.m., his agent told the Edmonton Journal.
"We have had no contract negotiations with the Oilers and we've expressed that to Jeff," Petry's agent Wade Arnott told Jim Matheson. "We expect Jeff will be dealt by the deadline."
A right-handed shot, Petry was the Oilers' second-round pick (No. 45) in the 2006 NHL Draft and has played 292 games in Edmonton. Sources told the Journal that teams have started calling Arnott to inquire if Petry, who could become an unrestricted free agent July 1, is interested in signing an extension. That would, according to Matheson, potentially increase Petry's value.
Petry, 27, has four goals, 10 assists, 100 shots on goal and a minus-25 rating in 56 games for the Oilers. He signed a one-year contract for the 2014-15 season worth $3.075 million.
