Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving said he won't force a trade after other Western Conference contenders made deals this week.
"You're cognizant of the teams around you, but you don't do anything just because somebody else did," Treliving told the Calgary Sun on Wednesday. "I think you have to be very careful of saying, 'Well, Team X did this, so we've have to go do something just to do something.'"
Calgary entered play Thursday in the second wild-card position into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
The Flames are three points behind the first wild card Winnipeg Jets, who on Wednesday acquired defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Drew Stafford in a trade that sent injured forward Evander Kane to the Buffalo Sabres.
Also Wednesday, the Dallas Stars, who trail the Flames by five points, acquired goalie Jhonas Enroth from the Sabres.
The NHL Trade Deadline is March 2 at 3 p.m.
"We want to be cautiously aggressive in terms of making sure that something that we're doing isn't impacting us a year, two, three, and beyond down the road," Treliving told the Sun. "But no question, the play of the team and where we are right now (in the standings) lends us to want to help and see if there are things that we can do to help."
