Sabres, Jets discussing Kane blockbuster: report

The Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets are in serious talks about a major trade involving forward Evander Kane, according to TSN reports.

(Editor's note: The Sabres and Jets completed a trade Wednesday, Feb. 11)

Kane, 23, is a hot commodity ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, which is 3 p.m. ET on March 2, in spite of the fact he needs shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

According to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, the Sabres are considering sending defenseman Tyler Myers, veteran forward Drew Stafford and highly touted prospects Brendan Lemieux and Joel Armia for Kane and young defenseman Zach Bogosian. Dreger says other elements may be in play as well.

Myers, 25, has four goals and 13 points in 47 games. Stafford, 29, has nine goals and 24 points in 50 games. Lemieux, selected in the second round (No. 31) of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Sabres, has 35 goals, 50 points and 120 penalty minutes in 46 games for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League this season. Armia, selected in the first round (No. 16) of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Sabres, has 10 goals and 25 points in 32 games with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League this season.

Bogosian, 24, has three goals and 13 points in 41 games for the Jets this season.

TSN hockey analyst Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday morning that the Sabres were "pushing hard to entice Winnipeg into trading Evander Kane now as opposed to late summer."

Kane had 14 goals and 25 points in 38 games this season. He has 109 goals and 222 points in 361 games over the past six seasons, all with the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise.
