Devils forward Jagr won't ask for trade

NEWARK, N.J. -- If New Jersey Devils right wing Jaromir Jagr is traded before the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline at 3 p.m. ET on March 2, it won't be because he asked to be traded.

"I didn't ask for [a] trade; I'm not going to," Jagr said following practice at Prudential Center on Wednesday. "I don't know what's going to happen. I'm pretty blessed and everything that happened to me always has been for good, so why shouldn't I believe in that now? Either way if I like it or not, I know in the long run it's going to be the best for me."

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reported Tuesday that Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, met with Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello in Montreal on Saturday to discuss Jagr's immediate future with the organization. LeBrun reported that Lamoriello told Svoboda he's not ready to trade Jagr because the Devils are in the Stanley Cup Playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

Since that reported meeting, New Jersey has lost to the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers. The Devils are 12 points out of the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference with 28 games remaining, including nine before the trade deadline.

Jagr denied having any involvement in that report.

"I didn't read it. I didn't talk to anybody," Jagr said. "I didn't even talk to anybody after the game the last two weeks. I didn't talk to media for the last two weeks. I have no idea. If they talked to my agent they should say my agent said that, if they said that. I didn't talk to anybody. I don't know have anybody's phone number. I've been in this situation. The media can write anything they want."

Jagr, who turns 43 on Sunday, leads the Devils with 29 points in 50 games. He can become an unrestricted free agent following the season.
