Oilers place Hall, Pouliot on IR; Bachman recalled

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The Edmonton Oilers placed forwards Taylor Hall and Benoit Pouliot on injured reserve Tuesday, and said Hall could miss as long as six weeks.

Hall had an MRI on his injured left ankle, and coach Todd Nelson said Tuesday the examination revealed a second injury.

"He suffered a new injury, a bone injury, and he's out for six weeks," Nelson said. Asked if the new injury was a fracture, Nelson said, "I'm not sure. It's just a new bone injury and he's out for up to six weeks."

Hall has 11 goals and 30 points in 42 games this season. He sat out Edmonton's first three games after the All-Star break, played 10:41 on Feb. 2 in a 5-4 shootout win at the San Jose Sharks but has not played since.

"He came back in San Jose and took a slash," Nelson said. "It's in the same area [as the original injury]. It didn't respond the way we wanted it to so that's when we had the MRI and that's when we discovered it was a new injury."

Pouliot has missed three games with a foot injury. Nelson said the Oilers are hopeful he will be ready to play Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens, the fourth game of Edmonton's six-game road trip. Pouliot has 11 goals and 17 points in 33 games

Nelson also said goaltender Ben Scrivens "tweaked his hamstring" in a 2-1 victory against the New Jersey Devils on Monday and will not dress for Edmonton's game at the New York Islanders on Tuesday. The Oilers called up goaltender Richard Bachman and forward Ryan Hamilton from the Oklahoma City Blazers of the American Hockey League for the game on Long Island.
