At the Rink: Stars at Bruins

BOSTON -- Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin was sent back to the team hotel from TD Garden because of flu-like symptoms Tuesday.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff, though, said he's hopeful Seguin will be able to play against the Boston Bruins (7 p.m. ET, SN1).

"There's three guys that are fighting a little bit of the flu. And Tyler's one of them," Ruff said after the morning skate. "We got a couple other guys that skated that are fighting it. Even our play-by-play guy [Ralph Strangis] is down and out too. That's when you know it's really hitting you hard."

Seguin, who was traded to the Stars from the Bruins in the summer of 2013, is tied for the NHL lead with 59 points and is third in the League with 29 goals. Shawn Horcoff filled in for Seguin during line drills at the morning skate. Ruff also said he'd consider moving Jamie Benn from wing to center if Seguin can't play.

The Stars are playing the last game of a three-game road trip after going 1-1-0 in the first two. In order to leave the trip with a winning record they'll have to avenge a 3-1 home loss to the Bruins on Jan. 20.

"I thought we played very well," Ruff said of that game. "You know we hit a couple goal posts, we hit a crossbar, but at the end we made two big defensive mistakes that allowed them at the end of the second period to basically put the game away.

"I think if we use our speed we're going to get the opportunities. But we have to make sure that on those good opportunities we finish. And it's been a little bit of our issue when we've lost some games. We've played very well as a team and we've lost some games that we just haven't put the puck in the back of the net or we've made one or two key defensive plays that have really hurt us."

The Bruins will try to slow down the second-best offense in the NHL with backup goaltender Niklas Svedberg, who returned after going 3-1-0 with a 2.76 goals-against average and .911 save percentage during a conditioning assignment with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Svedberg hasn't started in the NHL since a shutout against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 8. Tuukka Rask made the past 11 starts for the Bruins.

"He played four games. That's what he's there for," Bruins coach Claude Julien said of Svedberg. "He said he felt better and better every game. Our goal was to give him some games. He hadn't played much and felt it was unfair to him and to our team to throw him in when he was out so long or hadn't played much. It was a great opportunity for him to go there and play a lot of games."

In his first NHL season, Svedberg is 5-5-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. He said he didn't feel rusty with Providence after a few weeks without a game.

"I don't know. Not really. Maybe a little bit but not really," Svedberg said. "I felt pretty all right. The first one wasn't great, but overall those four games I felt pretty good."
