Team Toews, Team Foligno tied 4-4 end of first

COLUMBUS -- The first highlight of the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday was, somewhat incredibly, a save.

There weren't too many more saves the rest of the first period. Team Foligno and Team Toews went into the first intermission tied 4-4; the teams combined for 33 shots on goal.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen led Team Foligno with two goals, and Radim Vrbata of the Vancouver Canucks and Kevin Shattenkirk of the St. Louis Blues also scored. Team Foligno goalie Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens made 12 saves in his lone period of work.

Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks, Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and John Tavares of the New York Islanders scored for Team Toews.

Team Toews goalie Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers got across to stop a shot by Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs off a 2-on-1 break in the second minute of the game. Luongo finished the period with 13 saves, including another highlight-reel glove grab off Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Not long afterward, Vrbata was sprung on a breakaway by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers and beat Luongo at 3:09 of the first, scoring on his first shift in his first career All-Star Game. Nugent-Hopkins had two assists in the first period of his All-Star debut.

New York Rangers forward Rick Nash, a former Blue Jackets captain and public enemy No. 1 all weekend, had a semi-breakaway about five minutes into the game, and the crowd booed. When he missed the net, they cheered.

Getzlaf completed a nice give-and-go with Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues at 6:33 to tie the game, and Voracek gave Team Toews a 2-1 lead at 9:51 when he finished off a feed from captain Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Johansen tied it for Team Foligno at 11:05, with captain Nick Foligno drawing an assist, when he curled into the slot and beat Luongo with a wrist shot.

Bergeron gave Team Toews the lead again at 12:17, finishing a pass from his former teammate Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars, but Team Foligno scored the next two goals.

Shattenkirk fanned on his shot but still beat Luongo from the doorstep at 14:48, and Johansen got his second of the period less than two minutes later off an Ovechkin feed.

Tavares tied it with 56.8 seconds left in the period, out-waiting Price's attempt at a Dominik Hasek-like barrel-roll save.
