Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will not play in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game because of a lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.

"With [Malkin] he won't be ready to play right after the break," general manager Jim Rutherford told the Tribune-Review. "It's probably an injury that will take a little time to heal."

Rutherford would not put a timetable on how long Malkin could be out.

"I really won't know until we come back out of the break," Rutherford said. "He's going to be in town here during the break rehabbing. We'll have a better idea once we regroup on Monday."

Malkin missed parts of the second and third periods and did not play in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday and sat out Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Rutherford said the injury was something Malkin had been dealing with for a while and became aggravated during the game against the Flyers.

Malkin is tied for third in the League in scoring with 51 points.

There was no word of a replacement player named for Malkin.
