Fantasy Spin: Panthers right wing Hayes heating up

Florida Panthers forward Jimmy Hayes (owned in 4 percent of Yahoo leagues, RW) is worth a look for fantasy owners in need of a boost in goals. Hayes scored in a 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, giving him seven goals in his past 12 games. He played 16:18, including 1:24 of power-play time.

In his first full season with Florida, Hayes has a career-high 13 goals in 32 games. Although he's been scoring lately, Hayes has one assist and is minus-1 over his past 12 games, so he won't help much in those categories.

In addition to Hayes, Sean Bergenheim (1 percent owned, LW) has been coming on lately for the Panthers. He scored a goal against the Oilers after he had a goal and an assist Friday against the Calgary Flames.

Bergenheim has two goals and five assists in the past nine games.

- Derek Roy (3 percent owned, C) has been putting up points since the Oilers acquired him in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Dec. 29. He had an assist and was minus-1 in the loss to the Panthers in 14:17 of playing time, including 48 seconds on the power play.

Roy has six points (two goals) and is plus-2 in seven games since the trade; he had 10 points (one goal) and was even in 26 games with the Predators.

- If you dropped Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane (70 percent owned, LW) when he sustained his most recent injury in late December, consider giving him another shot.

Though Kane certainly can be frustrating for fantasy owners -- he's missed 15 games because of injury or suspension this season after playing in 63 in 2013-14 -- he produces when he's out there. Kane scored his seventh goal in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks, his second game back from a lower-body injury that cost him five games, and has 16 points in his 28 games. He also scored in the shootout.

Kane puts up numbers in secondary categories for those of you in leagues with more scoring options. He has 95 shots on goal, 94 hits and 50 penalty minutes.

Speaking of Jets who recently returned to the lineup: Zach Bogosian (6 percent owned, D) scored against the Ducks, giving him a goal in back-to-back games. He's played 19:29, 23:41 and 18:44 in three games since returning from a lower-body injury.
