PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux returned to the lineup Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators.
Giroux sat out the Flyers game Saturday against the New Jersey Devils after sustaining a cut to the lower part of the back of his left leg Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
He had sat out practice Monday and only took part in the final few minutes of the morning skate Tuesday.
Coach Craig Berube said Giroux had been cleared by the Flyers medical and training staff, and that after taking the warm-up, it would be Giroux's decision to play.
Giroux said after practice that he would play if he felt he could help the team.
"It's about being able to compete out there at a high level," Giroux said. "If I think I can do that I'll be fine."
Giroux skated in his usual top-line center role, between left wing Brayden Schenn and right wing Jakub Voracek.
With Giroux coming in, forward Zac Rinaldo was a healthy scratch.
