Flyers' Schenn out 4-6 weeks with broken foot
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers will be without Brayden Schenn for 4-6 weeks after he broke his left foot in last night's loss in Montreal.

Schenn, the key player in the summer trade that sent Mike Richards to the Los Angeles Kings, was scoreless with a minus-5 rating in five NHL games. He started the season with team's AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, and was recalled after scorching that league for 4 goals and 4 assists in four games.

To replace Schenn, the Flyers recalled forward Zac Rinaldo and defenseman Erik Gustafsson from Adirondack.

Rinaldo started the season with the Flyers and had 1 assist and 28 penalty minutes in five games prior to being sent down when Schenn was called up from the AHL and Jody Shelley finished serving his season-opening five-game suspension. In four AHL games, Rinaldo has a goal and an assist and just 11 penalty minutes.

Gustafsson, who was scoreless in three games with the Flyers last season, has 4 assists in eight AHL gamest this season.

Earlier reports had the Flyers sending defenseman Matt Walker to the AHL as part of today's roster moves, but the team made no announcement regarding his status. Walker had been placed on waivers Oct. 4, but never sent to the minors. He is a minus-2 with 16 penalty minutes in three games; he was a minus-1 in just 7:20 of ice time last night against the Canadiens.

On a positive note, Holmgren said injured defenseman Chris Pronger met with team eye doctor Stephen Goldman and again got good news.

"Chris saw Dr. Goldman again today," Holmgren said. "He continues to improve daily. Chris will start light exercise on the weekend."

Pronger, injured when he was struck in the right eye by the stick of Toronto forward Mikhail Grabovski during Monday's game, is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
