Canada sends five back to junior teams, roster at 25

Canada cut five players Sunday as it works toward its 22-man roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship later this month.

Defensemen Chris Bigras (Colorado Avalanche) and Travis Sanheim (Philadelphia Flyers) and forwards Remi Elie (Dallas Stars), Nicholas Baptiste (Buffalo Sabres) and Morgan Klimchuk (Calgary Flames) will be returned to their junior teams, Hockey Canada announced.

Canada, which will be based in St. Catharines, Ontario, for the World Championship, now has two goalies, eight defensemen and 15 forwards.

Canada must finalize its roster by Dec. 25. It opens the tournament, which will be played in Montreal and Toronto, on Dec. 26 vs. Slovakia.
