Sarnia Sting defenseman Anthony DeAngelo joined NHL Live for this week's Prospects Report to discuss his chances of playing for the United States at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The United States' selection camp begins Dec. 16 on the campus of Boston University at Walter Brown Arena. DeAngelo is one of six NHL first-round picks to receive an invite to the preliminary roster.
"I feel pretty confident in myself," DeAngelo said. "The reason why they brought me in, I'm going to try to go out there and show them, and hopefully get a chance to make the team. I think it would be an honor to make the team but there's a lot of good defensemen, so it's going to be a tough roster to crack.
"Last year I went in a little more nervous than I am this year. I tried to alter my game a little bit, just tried to play maybe a little more safe. There were a couple of things I tried to change and maybe it wasn't the best idea for me. This year I'm just going to go in and play the way that they brought me in to play and see what happens. It's an honor just to be selected but it's even more of an honor to make the team, so that's my goal now."
Chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 19th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, DeAngelo has eight goals and 32 points in 25 games with Sarnia after establishing career highs last season in goals (15), assists (56) and points (71).
DeAngelo and the Sting play the Kitchener Rangers on Friday (7:30 ET; NHLN).
