The New York Rangers announced Tuesday that forward Anthony Duclair has been loaned to Canada to participate in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Duclair, who has one goal, seven points, and a plus-4 rating in 18 games as a rookie for the Rangers this season, will join Canada for a training camp that starts Thursday at MasterCard Centre in Toronto. If selected to the team, Duclair will be playing in his first WJC, which begins Dec. 26.
The 19-year-old has represented Canada in several international tournaments. He had one goal and two points in five games to help Canada win a gold medal at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.
Hockey Canada still has not heard about the availability of three other junior-eligible players currently in the NHL, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin, Vancouver Canucks forward Bo Horvat and Ottawa Senators forward Curtis Lazar.
Two junior-eligible NHL players, center Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche and defenseman Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers, will not be loaned out because of their importance to their respective NHL teams.
The Dallas Stars announced Tuesday that defenseman Julius Honka would be loaned to defending champion Finland if he is not on the NHL roster Dec. 23. Honka, who won a gold medal with Finland at the 2014 WJC, has two goals and eight points in 21 games with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League this season.
