At the Rink: Red Wings at Hurricanes

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The surging Detroit Red Wings will look for their third straight win Sunday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.

Detroit (16-6-5) overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the New York Rangers 3-2 Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings have won eight of their past 11, scoring 3.6 goals per game during the stretch.

The Hurricanes (8-14-3) are a mirror image of the Red Wings over the past 11 games, having gone 3-8-0. Carolina is coming off a 2-1 home loss against the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Carolina coach Bill Peters will face his old team for the first time. Peters was an assistant with the Red Wings the past three seasons.

Detroit coach Mike Babcock earned his 500th coaching win on Saturday.

"I got a lot of nice texts from people and emails, and I appreciate that very much," Babcock said. "The reality is [Saturday] night's win was a huge win for us. We're in the day-to-day winning business. Yesterday's over with. We're going to try to win a game today."

As for his Peters, the Red Wings coach had nothing but positive thoughts.

"He's a great man," Babcock said. "He's as honest as the day is long. He's a good people guy. He's going to come here and do things his way based on his personality and he will have success."

Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward will start after missing the game against Washington with a lower-body injury, following a 32-save performance in a 2-1 win against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Defenseman Andrej Sekera, who suffered an upper-body injury in the final seconds against Nashville and sat out against Washington, is also expected to play.

Goalie Petr Mrazek will make his third start for the Red Wings. Babcock plans to add forward Daniel Cleary and defenseman Brian Lashoff to the lineup, but was undecided which players would come out.

Here are the projected lineups:
