Connor McDavid, expected to be one of the top picks at the 2015 NHL Draft, was among the players invited to Hockey Canada's Canadian National Junior Team selection camp that begins Dec. 11 in Toronto.

The camp will help determine the final roster Canada will use at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Montreal and Toronto.

McDavid, a center with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, has missed the past eight games because of a fracture in his right hand sustained Nov. 11. He still is second in the OHL with 51 points (16 goals, 35 assists) in 18 games.

He said he's hopeful his hand heals in time that he can play in the tournament.

Besides McDavid, left wing Lawson Crouse of the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL is the only other 2015 NHL Draft-eligible player invited to the camp. McDavid and Crouse are A-rated skaters on NHL Central Scouting's November players to watch list.

Central Scouting's Chris Edwards said Crouse, a 6-foot-4, 211-pound power forward, might be one of the hardest hitters in the OHL.

"He's not a dirty player but can hit so hard using those shoulders; he's a man," Edwards said. "There isn't a defenseman in the OHL that will stop him when he decides he's going to take the puck to the net. He's a big-bodied guy, protects the puck and is solid on his skates. He can see the ice and barrels through everyone. He's got good hands to go along with that big body."

The selection camp roster features seven returning players from the team that finished fourth at the 2014 WJC : goalie Zachary Fucale, defensemen Chris Bigras and Joshua Morrissey and forwards McDavid, Frederik Gauthier, Nicolas Petan and Sam Reinhart.

The camp roster includes two goalies, 10 defensemen and 17 forwards.

Twenty-one NHL teams will have at least one prospect at the camp, topped by three from the Winnipeg Jets -- Comrie, Morrissey and Petan. The Dallas Stars (Jason Dickinson, Remi Elie), Philadelphia Flyers (Samuel Morin, Travis Sanheim), Anaheim Ducks (Shea Theodore, Nick Ritchie) and Buffalo Sabres (Nicholas Baptiste, Sam Reinhart) each have two players invited to the camp.

The preliminary round of the 2015 WJC runs Dec. 26 through Dec. 31 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto and Bell Centre in Montreal. The medal round will be held Jan. 2-5. The gold-medal game is Jan. 5 at Air Canada Centre.

The 10-team tournament consists of the United States, Canada, Finland, Germany and Slovakia in Group A, and the Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia and Denmark in Group B.
