Erie Otters center Connor McDavid, a potential top-two pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, sustained a hand injury midway through the second period of a game against the Mississauga Steelheads on Tuesday at Erie Insurance Arena, the Otters said.
"He will visit a hand specialist Wednesday for further examination. McDavid is ruled out indefinitely," the Otters said in a statement.
McDavid, who had a goal and one assist in the game, was injured in a fight with Mississauga forward Bryson Cianfrone 13:50 into the second period. McDavid was given five minutes for fighting and a game misconduct for removing his helmet.
McDavid, who has scored a point in all but one game for Erie this season, has 16 goals and 51 points in 18 games. He has 69 goals and 216 points in 137 OHL games.
