At the Rink: Coyotes at Ducks

ANAHEIM -- Anaheim Ducks right wing Corey Perry, the leading goal scorer in the NHL, continues to rest from flu-like symptoms and coach Bruce Boudreau all but ruled him out for Friday against the Arizona Coyotes at Honda Center.

"I don't think Perry will be around for [Friday]," Boudreau said.

Perry and captain Ryan Getzlaf missed the game Wednesday against the New York Islanders with the illness, which has spread in Anaheim's locker room.

Getzlaf did not skate Friday morning but is expected to play. Perry did not report to the arena as the Ducks are being extra careful.

"You never know who else is going to catch it," Boudreau said. "Unless I can see it and say, 'Hey, get away from our team,' it's going to be around. Every team is going to get it. It's just a matter of when."

Perry has 11 goals in 13 games, one more than Rick Nash of the New York Rangers. The Ducks will lose that offense but gain back defenseman Bryan Allen, who is expected to make his season debut after a hamstring and reported torn biceps injuries.

It will be Allen's first NHL game since Game 7 of the Western Conference Second Round against the Los Angeles Kings on May 16, although he played preseason games and did a conditioning stint in the American Hockey League. He could be reunited with defense partner Sami Vatanen.

"I expect to play my game and execute it the way I always have," Allen said.

Anaheim looked unorganized without Getzlaf in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders, so teammates welcome his return.

"I think it just settles things in terms of lines," right wing Andrew Cogliano said. "You want to win games when guys like him and Perry aren't in just to show that guys can step up and contribute. But when's he in it's a huge boost for the team."

Arizona is going for a third straight win, but its usually tight defense has shown cracks; the Coyotes have allowed at least one power-play goal in five games in a row.

"It's early in the season and we're still trying to get used to some players that maybe weren't here and are new to the penalty kill," defenseman Keith Yandle said. "It's one of those things where it's a work in progress and I think we'll be fine."

Coyotes coach Dave Tippett is less tolerant of why they've been shorthanded.

"There's some penalties we've got to take out of our game," said Tippett, who is two games shy of tying Bob Francis for the longest coaching tenure in franchise history at 390 games. "There's other ones that, when they happen, you've got to be able to kill them. We've done some good things and we've done some things where we've given teams second opportunities by not getting the clears. Those are things we've got to clean up."
