Top prospect McDavid's scoring streak stopped at 14

Top 2015 NHL Draft prospect Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League had his season-opening point streak snapped at 14 games in Erie's 5-2 loss to the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday.

McDavid had 14 goals and a league-high 42 points during his scoring streak. He had at least two points in 12 of the 14 games, and seven four-point games.

His 42 points put him nine ahead of the next-best OHL scorer, Erie teammate and fellow top 2015 draft prospect Dylan Strome, who has 33 points. And McDavid's 14 goals are one behind teammate Alexander DeBrincat's 15. McDavid also has an OHL-best plus-30 rating.

The 6-foot, 195-pound center earned an A rating from NHL Central Scouting in its preliminary players to watch list, and is a candidate to be the first player picked at the 2015 draft.
