Corey Perry joined NHL Live to discuss the Anaheim Ducks' 10-3-0 start to the regular season.
Perry was named the "First Star" for October after leading the Ducks to the best record in the League. He started the season with points in each of his first five games (5-2-7) and already has two hat tricks, making him the sixth NHL player in 29 years, and first since 2003-04 (Ilya Kovalchuk), to have two hat tricks in a team's first seven games.
Perry, whose 11 goals lead the League, scored 43 last season and a career-high 50 in 2010-11. But guest analyst Dan Bylsma is also impressed with the feistiness that Perry brings to his game.
"When either I get hit early on in the game and it makes you mad or something happens, it just fires me up," Perry said. "I seem to play a little bit better when I have that aggressiveness. It's just like a little light switch that goes on in my head and away I go. That's the way I gotta play. That's how I came into this League. That's how I'm going to stay in this League."
The Ducks begin a four-game homestand Wednesday against the New York Islanders following a 4-1 road trip, but will be without injured goalie John Gibson (groin) for the next six weeks.
"It doesn't matter who's in the lineup," Perry said. "You have to go out and perform. You have to earn your stripes each and every day. We have confidence in whoever's in net and whoever's playing on defense and whoever's in the lineup at forward. We have a feeling in that dressing room that we have a chance to win each and every night and that's a good feeling to have."
