Throwback night at Prudential Center for Devils-Stars

It'll be a throwback night at Prudential Center on Friday when the New Jersey Devils honor longtime television analyst Glenn "Chico" Resch prior to the game against the Dallas Stars.

Resch retired after last season after 17 years as an analyst on Devils games for MSG Network.

The Devils will honor Resch with an on-ice pregame ceremony before he goes up to the broadcast booth to join his longtime partner, Mike "Doc" Emrick on the game broadcast. "Doc" and "Chico" called Devils games together for 14 years before Emrick left to join NBC full-time after the 2010-11 season.

Emrick will host the on-ice ceremony honoring Resch; it will be shown live on MSG-Plus in the New York area.

"It seems to me to be more popularity over performance," Resch told NorthJersey.com. "In a unique way I think it's more incredible that I'm getting this. You just make the list of the people who stood down there, two Hall of Famers [Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer], 'Doc,' Mr. Devil Ken Daneyko."

Resch played in the NHL for 15 seasons and appeared in 571 games as a goalie with the New York Islanders, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers. He won 231 games, including 26 shutouts, and won the Stanley Cup with the Islanders in 1980.

Resch received the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey after the 1981-82 season.

"I think it's well deserved," Devils center Patrik Elias told NorthJersey.com. "He's been a big part of this organization and the voice of it and he's done a great job. People love him and I'm glad the organization has noticed that too. I'm sure he’s going to enjoy that night and so will the people."
