Burakovsky likely to stay with Capitals: report

Washington Capitals prospect Andre Burakovsky has impressed enough in camp that he is likely to make the NHL roster, CSNWashington.com reported Sunday.

The 19-year-old spent the majority of his junior career playing on the wing, but has performed well as Washington's No. 2 center behind Nicklas Backstrom with two goals and two assists in six preseason games.

A few hours after the Capitals wrapped up the preseason with a 5-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes, team captain Alex Ovechkin posted a photograph on his Instragam account of he and Burakovsky welcoming the latter to the team.

"I don't imagine him not being here," Capitals coach Barry Trotz said of Burakovsky on Thursday.

Washington's first-round pick (No. 23) at the 2013 NHL Draft, Burakovsky had 41 goals and 46 assists in 57 games for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League last season.

The Capitals open the regular season Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens at Verizon Center.
