Dallas Stars defenseman Sergei Gonchar will be out for 3-5 weeks because of a fracture in his ankle, general manager Jim Nill told the Stars website.
Gonchar, 40, has two assists and a plus-3 rating in three preseason games. He had 22 points in 2013-14 while averaging 17:36 of ice time in 76 regular-season games. He had zero points and a minus-3 rating in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The news was better for goaltender Kari Lehtonen. He practiced Thursday and Ruff said Lehtonen was healthy after missing time with a concussion sustained Monday during a preseason game against the Florida Panthers.
