Coyotes return Domi to junior team

The Arizona Coyotes on Thursday returned top forward prospect Max Domi to his junior team, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League.

Domi, 19, had 34 goals and 93 points in 61 games last season with London and also played in the Memorial Cup for the third straight season. The 12th player taken in the 2013 NHL Draft, Domi also is No. 25 on NHL.com's ranking of the Top 60 prospects in the League.

"I thought he had a terrific camp, much better than a year ago," general manager Don Maloney said, according to the Coyotes website. "He’s quicker, stronger -- he’s just 19 years old. He’s a young player that has to continue to be able to execute offensively at the NHL level on a consistent basis. When we talk Max Domi, we’re not talking about a fourth-line energy player. We need him to be a top-two line offensive contributor and he’s going to be a great player for us down the road… In an ideal world we’d love to put him in the American [Hockey] League, but that’s not available to us. He’ll go back to junior."

The Coyotes also sent six players to Portland of the American Hockey League. Among them is defenseman Brandon Gormley, who is No. 31 on the NHL.com Top 60 prospect ranking.

Also sent to Portland were goaltender Louis Domingue, defenseman Andrew Campbell and forwards Lucas Lessio, Tobias Rieder and Jordan Szwarz.

Defenseman Haydn Fleury, the No. 7 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, was reassigned Thursday to his junior team, the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

Fleury, who is No. 33 on the NHL.com Top 60 prospect ranking, was one of 10 players reassigned by the Hurricanes as they cut their training camp roster to 25 players.

Forwards Phillip Di Giuseppe, Brock McGinn, Carter Sandlak, Brody Sutter and Brendan Woods, and defenseman Danny Biega were sent to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre and defensemen Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen will join the Checkers pending waivers.

Center Jordan Staal, expected to miss several months with a broken leg, was placed on injured reserve.

---

The Chicago Blackhawks sent forward Ryan Hartman to Rockford of the AHL.

Hartman, the 30th pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, had 54 points in 52 games last season with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League, and three goals and four assists in seven games with Rockford.

The Blackhawks also recalled defenseman Klas Dahlbeck from Rockford. Dahlbeck had four shots on goal and two penalty minutes in two preseason games.

---

Defenseman Connor Carrick was one of three players the Washington Capitals sent to Hershey of the AHL.

Also sent down were right wing Garrett Mitchell and center Casey Wellman.

---

The Edmonton Oilers sent goaltender Laurent Brossoit and defenseman David Musil to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.

The moves leave the Oilers roster at 35 players.

---

The Montreal Canadiens assigned defensemen Davis Drewiske and Greg Pateryn and forwards Sven Andrighetto, Jake Dowell and Gabriel Dumont to Hamilton of the AHL. Drewiske and Dumont must first clear waivers before they can report.

The Canadiens also agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with forward

Drayson Bowman, who had been invited to camp. Bowman, 25, had 12 points in 70 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2013-14.

The Canadiens have 28 players on their training camp roster.

---

The Columbus Blue Jackets assigned goaltender Oscar Dansk and forwards Dana Tyrell and Simon Hjalmarsson to Springfield of the AHL.

Dansk, 20, was a second-round pick (No. 31) in the 2012 NHL Draft. He has played the past two seasons for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League and won 29 games in 2013-14 with a 2.39 goals-against average.

---

The Dallas Stars sent center Travis Morin and goaltender Jussi Rynnas to the Texas Stars of the AHL.

The moves leave Dallas' roster at 23 players.

---

The Detroit Red Wings assigned Andreas Athanasiou, Colin Campbell, Martin Frk, Mattias Backman, Richard Nedomlel and Ryan Sproul to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Joe Hicketts was assigned to the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League, and Shane Berschbach, Alden Hirschfeld and Mark Zengerle were released from their tryouts.
