Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday that Kari Lehtonen was doing "pretty good" one day after the goaltender sustained a concussion in the third period of the Stars' 5-4 preseason win against the Florida Panthers.
Lehtonen will sit out the Stars' preseason finale Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at American Airlines Center, but is expected to be ready for Dallas' season opener Oct. 9 at home against the Chicago Blackhawks.
"To me, Kari seems pretty good today," Ruff told the Stars website. "I am not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but I think we are basically out of the woods in that situation. Just have to give the mandatory couple of days."
Anders Lindback, 3-0-0 with a 2.78 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in the preseason, will start against the Lightning with Jussi Rynnas dressing as the backup.
"I think if you can come out of the season with your backup having a winning record, that's a big deal," Ruff said of Lindback. "He needs to be able to step in and win games for you, play well. Most times he is stepping in tougher situations, a lot of times it is back-to-backs situations. I like what I have seen from him. He's played well and he's moved the puck well. He is a pretty good puck mover for a goaltender."
