Columbus Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner is expected to miss a significant amount of time with a broken left hand, The Columbus Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Jenner is thought to have sustained the injury when he was struck by a puck Sunday during practice.

"It got him just right," general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said, according to the Dispatch. "It was a pretty light practice. It was the only shooting drill we did the whole time, and it gets him."

The 21-year-old had 16 goals and 29 points in 72 regular-season games and three goals and five points in six Stanley Cup Playoff games as a rookie last season.

Jenner was projected to play on the first line this season with center Ryan Johansen and wing Nathan Horton, but Johansen remains a restricted free agent without a contract and Horton is out with a back injury.

Forward Brandon Dubinsky has also been sidelined in recent days but said Monday he was fine.

The Blue Jackets are getting healthy on defense, with Tim Erixon returning to the lineup Monday in a 3-0 preseason win against the Nashville Predators. Ryan Murray has been practicing and there remains hope he could be ready for the regular-season opener Oct. 9 against the Buffalo Sabres.

"It's always good to have players back out on the ice and taking part in drills, so that's a positive sign," coach Todd Richards said. "Ryan was a big part of our team last year and he's going to be a big part of our future, and the quicker we can get him back on the ice playing, the better it is for everyone."
