Devils send Brodeur, Quenneville to juniors

Goaltender Anthony Brodeur and 2014 first-round draft pick John Quenneville were among six players the New Jersey Devils returned to their junior teams from training camp Wednesday.

Quenneville, a center, was the 30th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. He will play for Brandon in the Western Hockey League.

Brodeur, the son of Martin Brodeur, will play for Gatineau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Defenseman Ryan Rehill (Kamloops, WHL), and forwards Brandon Baddock (Edmonton, WHL), Connor Chatham (Plymouth, Onatario Hockey League) and Ryan Kujawinski (Kingston, OHL) also were returned.

The Philadelphia Flyers reduced their training camp roster to 39 players Wednesday by returning three players to their junior teams and 19 to the American Hockey League.

The team's top two picks at the 2014 NHL Draft, first-round pick (No. 17) defenseman Travis Sanheim (Calgary, WHL) and second-round pick (No. 48) left wing Nicholas Aube-Kubel (Val-d'Or, QMJHL) were sent back to junior hockey, as was center Radel Fazleev (Calgary, WHL), a 2014 sixth-round pick (No. 168)

Among those sent to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms was defenseman Robert Hagg, one of the organization's top prospects; he was No. 55 on the NHL.com Top 60 prospect ranking.

Also sent to the AHL were forwards Brandon Alderson, Nick Cousins, Austin Fyten, Matt Hatch, Brett Hextall, Andrew Johnston, Derek Mathers, Marcel Noebels and Petr Straka; defensemen Mark Alt, Steven Delisle, Brett Flemming and, Jesper Pettersson; and goaltenders Connor Knapp, Martin Ouellette and Anthony Stolarz.

The Vancouver Canucks assigned three players to their respective junior teams on Wednesday.

Defenseman Jordan Subban, the Canucks' fourth-round pick (No. 115) in the 2013 NHL Draft, will play his fourth season for Belleville of the Ontario Hockey League. Center Cole Cassels was sent to Oshawa of the OHL and defenseman Anton Cederholm to Portland of the Western Hockey League.

The Canucks also released goaltender Austin Lotz.

Goaltender Eric Comrie was among six players the Winnipeg Jets reassigned to their junior teams Wednesday.

Comrie, a second-round pick (No. 59) in the 2013 NHL Draft, was sent back to Tri-City of the Western Hockey League, where he has played the past three seasons. Comrie played in two games at the end of the 2013-14 season with the Jets' American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's IceCaps.

Also reassigned were forwards Axel Blomqvist, Chase De Leo and Jimmy Lodge, and defensemen Jan Kostalek and Nelson Nogier.

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday trimmed 18 players from their training camp roster.

Among those sent out was goaltender Tristan Jarry, who was returned to his junior team, the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League. Jarry, 19, was named the best goaltender in the WHL last season and led Edmonton to the Memorial Cup championship.

The Penguins also sent 13 players to the Wikes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League: goaltenders Matt Murray and Eric Hartzell; forwards Scott Wilson, Josh Archibald, Anton Zlobin, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Matia Marcantuoni, Tom Kuhnhackl, Adam Payerl, Bryan Rust and Nick Drazenovic; and defensemen Nick D’Agostino and Harrison Ruopp.

Four other players, including NHL veteran Tom Kostopoulos, were released from their tryout contracts and will report Wilkes-Barre/Scranton training camp.

The Penguins' roster now stands at 37 players.

The Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday sent six players to their American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk.

Goaltenders Ryan Faragher and Etienne Marcoux, defenseman Nathan McIver and forwards Joseph Cramarossa, Antoine Laganiere and Charlie Sarault will all report to the Admirals.

In addition, defenseman Kenton Helgesen was reassigned to his junior club, the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

The Ducks' roster now stands at 46 players.

The San Jose Sharks on Wednesday reassigned goaltender Aaron Dell and forward Jimmy Bonneau to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.

The Sharks also released goalie Ben Meisner from his tryout contract. Their roster now stands at 45 players.

The Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday reduced their training camp roster by three players.

Left wing Markus Soberg was returned to Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League and defenseman Blake Siebenaler to Niagara of the OHL. Goaltender Scott Munroe was also released from his tryout contract and is expected to report to the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield.

The Blue Jackets roster is at 50 players.

The New York Rangers on Wednesday reassigned 18 players from their training camp roster.

Assigned to their American Hockey League affiliate in Hartford were Troy Donnay, Michael Kantor, Nickolas Latta, Paxton Leroux, Chris McCarthy, Richard Nejezchleb, Logan Nelson, Josh Nicholls, Sam Noreau, Mackenzie Skapski, Michael St. Croix, and Andrew Yogan.

Assigned to their respective junior clubs were Ryan Graves, Brandon Halverson, Keegan Iverson, Ryan Mantha, Adam Tambellini, and Daniel Walcott.

In addition, the Rangers released Nathan Burns and Dallas Valentine from their tryout agreements.

The Rangers roster is at 43 players.
